The False "I Am," the Curse of Manifestation, and the 12-Year-Olds Who Knew Better

The early morning wake-ups are still happening. 3:00, 4:00, 4:34 AM again today.

But sitting in the quiet of this Friday morning, reading through Isaiah 47, the words hit me with a terrifying, devastating clarity. It brought back a conversation I had with Pam, my first biblical counselor after Cash passed away.

For years, I was deeply entrenched in the teachings of Joseph Murphy, Neville Goddard, and the "I Am" manifestation doctrines. I didn't care for The Secret or Bob Proctor, but I studied all the so-called metaphysical "universal truths." I dove hard into A Course in Miracles, which ultimately brought absolute terror into my life. Pam had walked that exact same road. She was a business coach who used those universal truths to help her clients get rich, thinking she was a Christian the entire time.

She was brutally upfront with me. She called the "I Am" statements and the metaphysical manifesting exactly what they are: witchcraft. Sorcery. A tool of Satan.

And I am just as much to blame. I didn't just practice it; I wrote about it and shared it with my Christian friends. None of them really pushed back or argued with me.

Do you know who did? My 12-year-old son, Cash, and his best friend, Terry.

As Terry reminded me at breakfast just the other day, "Micah, 12-year-old me was debating you." And the humbling, heavy truth is that those two 12-year-old boys were absolutely right, and I was completely wrong.

Pam helped me unlock and unwind that brainwashing. To break the habit of those false "I Am" statements I was using to conjure money and pleasure, I had to create a YouTube video that I listened to every morning, writing the actual biblical truth out on a legal pad. They say it takes 21 days to break a habit, but it took me one to three solid months to unwind that spiritual damage.

I was practicing sorcery. I was conjuring clients, conjuring women to call me, conjuring whatever worldly pleasure I could think of—and the terrifying part is that it worked. It was as if God was treating me like a college frat boy drinking from a beer bong, just continually pouring my fleshly wants and desires down my throat, asking, "Are you ready to follow me yet? Have you had enough of this yet?"

Then I read Isaiah 47:8-9 today, and it sent a chill down my spine: "Now then, listen, you lover of pleasure, lounging in your security and saying to yourself, 'I am, and there is none besides me. I will never be a widow or suffer the loss of children.' Both of these will overtake you in a moment, on a single day: loss of children and widowhood."

Both of those overtook me. I became a widow of my own making through divorce, and I suffered the ultimate, agonizing loss of my only son.

Is this the curse of witchcraft? Surely. My wisdom and knowledge misled me when I claimed the title of "I am." God dismantles all of that arrogance just a few chapters earlier in Isaiah 45: "I am the Lord, and there is no other; apart from me there is no God."

There is only one "I AM." Every time we try to claim that title to manifest our own desires, we are stepping into a deeply dangerous spiritual territory. I am so thankful God broke that bondage in my life, even though the cost of my awakening is a grief I will carry until I see Cash again.

    Today's SOAP

    S - Scripture

Isaiah 47:8-10 (NIV): "Now then, listen, you lover of pleasure, lounging in your security and saying to yourself, 'I am, and there is none besides me. I will never be a widow or suffer the loss of children.' Both of these will overtake you in a moment... Your wisdom and knowledge mislead you when you say to yourself, 'I am, and there is none besides me.'"

Isaiah 45:5 (NIV): "I am the Lord, and there is no other; apart from me there is no God."

    O - Observation

Isaiah draws a stark, terrifying line between the absolute sovereignty of God and the destructive arrogance of human sorcery. When we claim the divine title of "I Am" to secure our own pleasure, wealth, or safety, we are trusting in our own wickedness. This false sense of control is an illusion that ultimately brings devastation. God reminds us repeatedly in chapters 43 and 45 that He alone is the Creator, the Savior, and the only true "I AM."

    A - Application

I spent years building my life on the shifting, dangerous sands of manifestation and metaphysical sorcery. I claimed "I am" to get what I wanted, and it led to absolute ruin. I must continually guard my heart against the subtle creep of self-reliance or trying to "conjure" my own outcomes in business or relationships. I must submit entirely to the reality that God alone is the Lord. I will use these early 4:34 AM wake-ups not to manifest my day, but to bow in humility before the only God who holds my future.

    P - Prayer

Heavenly Father, forgive me for the years I spent claiming Your holy title for my own selfish gain. Forgive me for the arrogance of my metaphysical pursuits and the sorcery I allowed into my life. Thank You for the boldness of a 12-year-old Cash and Terry who stood for Your truth when I was blind to it. Lord, continue to unwind any remaining threads of that brainwashing in my mind. I acknowledge today that You are the Lord, and there is no other. Guide my steps, protect my heart, and let my life bring glory to Your true name. In Jesus' name, Amen.

    Today's Challenge

Take a hard, honest look at your daily routines, your business practices, and your self-talk. Are you subtly relying on "manifesting," putting your faith in the universe, or trying to conjure your own success? Identify one area where you are trying to be the "I Am," write it down, and consciously surrender the outcome to the only true Lord today.
